ABOUT ABBOTSFORD
There are no indications that Abbotsford’s steady expansion will slow down. The downtown center is becoming all the city envisioned, garnering developer interest from as far away as Vancouver, thanks to Mayor Henry Braun’s reelection, which confirmed the city’s approval of his strategy to development. Several additional districts are starting to take off as the city center continues to be revitalized. The UDistrict Plan’s ultimate approval, which solidifies its position as the city’s next growth center, is perhaps most notable. The Mckee Peaks neighborhood of East Abbotsford, which, despite lagging behind other high priority communities, appears to be advancing, is another area of importance in the near future.
The City of Abbotsford, the largest municipality in the Lower Mainland by area, is located in the heart of British Columbia’s Fraser Valley. The economic backbone of the region is agriculture, and Abbotsford is known as the “City in the Country” because of this. The manufacturing and aerospace industries also support the economy. The business community in the city is growing and is lively and vibrant. Abbotsford has experienced tremendous residential growth in addition to a sharp increase in retail, commercial, and industrial development.
The cutting-edge Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre (ARHCC), Mill Lake Park, the old town, the University of the Fraser Valley, and the Abbotsford International Airport (YXX) are just a few of the city’s landmarks.
